In the west, the yellow rubber duck is an icon, reminding us of childhood and early bathing experiences. Budiarta uses this western iconography to replace the cosmic turtle, the divine vehicle of Lord Brahma, the Creator. In choosing to replace the cosmic turtle with a rubber duck, Budiarta reminds us that we are free to choose our actions, but we are required to bear all of the consequences, both intended and unintended. Only then, can we be the master of ourselves and earn the trust and respect of others.
