These seemingly simple elements represent Balinese belief in maintaining balance between man and the environment (Palemahan). The three activities of Tumpek Uduh – a ceremony for plants, Tumpek Kandang – a ceremony for farm animals and Caru (Bhuta Yajna)– a ceremony to appease earth demons are all important in teaching us to preserve this harmony with nature. References to ink wash and traditional ways of depicting leaves, branches and fire are used. Nature needs a place and we need nature.
