Description

This work is comprised of four small palm leaf etchings, a technique which is related to an old form of writing, where words or images were etched into the leaf and rubbed with charcoal. This technique to create these old manuscripts were usually used for religious and the recording of important information. The composition is filled with reference to everyday contemporary society (mobile phones, for instance), within a subject that refers to traditional ritual. The jury were excited by how the artist has developed this process for a contemporary outlook, raising a discussion about the ways in which we store and collect information and knowledge in an age of electronic data.
